Good Gumnuts takes place on Tasmania’s North West Coast, which puts you in a pretty good spot to explore some of the best food, drink, towns, mountains and coastline lutruwita/Tasmania has to offer.
We’ve put together three road trip ideas depending on how much time you have.
5 Days
GOOD GUMNUTS + A TASTE OF THE NORTH WEST
Short on time? Keep it local. This itinerary gives you a taste of the North West without spending half your trip behind the wheel.
DAY 1
DEVONPORT → SASSAFRAS → SPREYTON → BURNIE
If you’re arriving via Devonport, don’t rush straight past everything.
Start with a short trip to Eastford Creek Vineyard in Sassafras for a taste of wine grown right here on Tasmania’s North West Coast.
From there, head towards Spreyton Cider Co. for cider, something to eat and a chance to slow down beside the orchard before continuing west towards Burnie.
Once you’re settled in Burnie, head into town for dinner and a locally brewed beer at Communion Brewing Co.
DAY 2, 3 & 4
GOOD GUMNUTS FESTIVAL
FRIDAY 5 MARCH 2027
Settle into the festival, set up camp and kick off the weekend.
Music, food, drinks and everything Good Gumnuts from Friday through Sunday.
DAY 5
BURNIE → PENGUIN → HOME
Take the slow road home.
Grab breakfast in Burnie, head east along the coast and stop in Penguin for coffee, a walk along the foreshore and the obligatory photo with the Big Penguin.
From there, continue towards Devonport for the Spirit of Tasmania or start the drive towards Launceston.
Perfect for: anyone adding just one day either side of the festival.
7 Days
GOOD GUMNUTS + THE NORTH WEST CLASSICS
With a couple more days, you can get beyond Burnie and see why Tasmania’s North West deserves more than a quick drive through.
DAY 1
DEVONPORT → EASTFORD CREEK → SPREYTON → BURNIE
Start your trip around Devonport. Make your first stop at Eastford Creek Vineyard in Sassafras, then continue to Spreyton Cider Co. for lunch or a tasting beside the orchard.
From there, head west along the coast towards Burnie.
Finish your first day at Communion Brewing Co. for dinner and a local beer.
DAY 2
BURNIE → TABLE CAPE → STANLEY
Head west.
Stop around Wynyard and Table Cape before continuing along the coast to Stanley.
Spend the afternoon exploring the historic town beneath The Nut, take the walk or chairlift to the top and stay for the evening.
DAY 3, 4 & 5
STANLEY → BURNIE
Take the morning slowly in Stanley before heading back towards Burnie.
Then it’s time for 3 days of Good Gumnuts.
DAY 6
BURNIE → CRADLE MOUNTAIN
After three days at the festival, head inland towards Cradle Mountain.
Take on Dove Lake, choose a shorter rainforest walk or simply spend the afternoon exploring the area and keeping an eye out for wombats.
DAY 7
CRADLE MOUNTAIN → SHEFFIELD → DEVONPORT
Take one final morning around Cradle Mountain before heading towards Sheffield, Tasmania’s Town of Murals.
Grab lunch, wander around town and continue towards Devonport.
If you’re sailing home, you’re already in the right part of the state. If you’re flying from Launceston, keep heading east.
Perfect for: visitors wanting the festival plus a proper taste of Tasmania’s North West.
10 Days
TURN GOOD GUMNUTS INTO A TASSIE ROAD TRIP

If you’re coming all the way to Tasmania, this is the one.
Take your time, see a bigger slice of the island and work your way towards Good Gumnuts rather than racing straight to Burnie.
DAY 1
HOBART
Spend the day around the waterfront and Salamanca, explore the city or head up kunanyi / Mount Wellington.
While you’re in the south, seek out Island Coast Spirits, a Good Gumnuts partner producing Tasmanian vodka, gin, rum and whisky. Island Coast Spirits is based in Hobart and works with Tasmanian spirits produced in small batches.
DAY 2
HOBART → THE MIDLANDS → LAUNCESTON
Leave Hobart and take your time heading north.
Stop through one of Tasmania’s historic Midlands towns such as Oatlands or Ross before continuing towards Launceston.
Spend the afternoon exploring the city and Cataract Gorge.
DAY 3
LAUNCESTON → SASSAFRAS → SPREYTON → BURNIE
Head west towards the North West Coast.
Make Eastford Creek Vineyard your wine stop for the day in Sassafras. The vineyard sits in Tasmania’s North West and operates a cellar door on site.
Continue to Spreyton Cider Co. for lunch, cider or a tasting before following the coast through Devonport and Penguin towards Burnie.
Finish with dinner at Communion Brewing Co. in Burnie.
DAY 4
BURNIE → TABLE CAPE → STANLEY
Head west along Tasmania’s North West Coast.
Stop around Table Cape and Wynyard before continuing to Stanley.
Walk or ride to the top of The Nut, explore town and settle in for the night.
DAY 5, 6, 7
STANLEY → BURNIE
Spend the morning around Stanley and the far North West before turning back towards Burnie.
There’s no need to rush. Take the coastal road, find somewhere for lunch and make your way back to the festival site ready for the weekend. Once you arrive, set up camp, grab a drink and start your festival weekend.
DAY 8
BURNIE → TAKAYNA / TARKINE
Head west again, this time with more time to explore.
Spend the day experiencing takayna / Tarkine, Tasmania’s wild North West, with rainforest, rivers and rugged coastline.
Stay in the North West or loop back towards Burnie depending on how far you want to travel.
DAY 9
NORTH WEST → CRADLE MOUNTAIN
Head inland towards Cradle Mountain.
Spend the afternoon around Dove Lake or choose one of the shorter walks through the national park.
Keep an eye out for wombats as the afternoon cools down.
DAY 10
CRADLE MOUNTAIN → SHEFFIELD → HOME
One final morning in the mountains.
Then take the scenic route through Sheffield, grab lunch and make your way back towards Devonport or Launceston for the trip home.
Or add another day.
